Garden Collections: Furniture

Mildred Bliss and Beatrix Farrand designed or purchased garden furniture to complement and define each of the garden’s rooms. Many of the designs combined a mixture of materials, different stones including limestone or marble, various woods including cypress, teak, or oak, and metals such as iron, lead, or aluminum. Pieces were scaled and shaped to fit within their chosen niche, and were sometimes placed for a view, and at other times nestled for privacy, often within the curve of a wall or slope.
