Description

Anne Sweeney probably obtained this book list during her last visit to Beatrix Farrand, summer 1947. While in the northeast she visited the Arnold Arboretum, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society Library, and the Harvard Landscape Library to view important books each had. Dorothy St. John Manks, librarian for the Massachusetts Horticultural Library, gave Anne Sweeney a list of important books, B:AS 1947.08.05.

At some point, Beatrix Farrand was sent a copy of the list. Isabelle M. Stover, on Beatrix Farrand's behalf, made notations in blue colored pencil to the list and returned it to Anne Sweeney, B:IMS 1948.04.08.

Uncertain who added pencil notations, possibly Isabelle M. Stover or Anne Sweeney indicating which books Dumbarton Oaks Garden Library already had.

In upper left corner in pencil: "Miss Sweeney's list marked & with B.F. [Beatrix Farrand] suggestions in [red, crossed out] blue." Probably written by Isabelle M. Stover.

Unsigned, probably created by Dorothy St. John Manks, librarian for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society Library.

Undated, probably created around 1947.
