Description

Letter from Anne Sweeney to Beatrix Farrand responding to a letter sent to her by Beatrix Farrand, October 12, 1945. Anne Sweeney mentions that John Thacher is not very favorable towards selling anything else even kodachrome photographs of the Dumbarton Oaks Gardens and visitors to Dumbarton Oaks Gardens totaled 4,898 for one day in October [1945] which made the grass looks as though a regiment of soldiers had camped on it.

Anne Sweeney is uncertain how to proceed with creating a leaflet for the Dumbarton Oaks Gardens. She feels the books, The New Book of Trees by Marcus Woodward and a book by Matthews on trees would be useful. She suggests that Beatrix Farrand should talk with John Thacher about the Orangery being made into a Garden Gallery, but a new approach or walkway will probably be needed to keep people off the South Lawn. It may be difficult to select the photographs for the planting record (Beatrix Farrand's Plant Book for Dumbarton Oaks).

Carbon copy of original correspondence. Original letter lacking in collection.

Unsigned, but probably created by Anne Sweeney based letter sent to her from Beatrix Farrand discussing the same topics, B:BF 1945.10.12.

Title created by cataloger.
