Description

Letter asking for John Thacher's review and comment on an attached report on the Dumbarton Oaks grounds policy. In the report, Beatrix Farrand provides her insight as to how Harvard could adapt the Dumbarton Oaks gardens over time to better fit the institution's educational purposes. The report suggests the creation of a plant record book for Dumbarton Oaks [Beatrix Farrand's Plant Book for Dumbarton Oaks] to provide guidance on "the types of planting that have seemed to be fitting and effective."

In the letter, Beatrix Farrand also mentions how she is eager to see the progress made on the Dumbarton Oaks library, indicating her plan to visit Dumbarton Oaks in July.

Typewritten letter on Beatrix Farrand's San Marino, California letterhead. Address crossed out and "Reef Point, Bar Harbor, Maine" typed beside it. Signature in black ink. "Please file" handwritten in pencil, likely by John Thacher, at top of first page.

Typewritten report entitled, "Report Submitted for Criticism and Suggestion." Dated June 28, 1941 and signed, "Respectfully submitted, Beatrix Farrand" in black ink. "Please file" handwritten in pencil, likely by John Thacher, at top of first page.

Includes handwritten note in black ink, likely by John Thacher, "July 7th 1941. J.S.T. saw Mrs. Farrand in Bar Harbor, and approved of her report. Word is awaited from the Blisses before final draft is written."
