Description

Beatrix Farrand originally designed the Ellipse garden as the Box Ellipse, with a two-tiered fountain pool and boxwood hedges surrounding the space. The garden was re-designed in 1958 and altered in the 1960's.

Unknown photographer.

Undated, probably created between 1955-1957. A copy of the photograph appears in Beatrix Farrand's Plant Book for Dumbarton Oaks, p. 79 with the caption, "The Box Ellipse, ca. 1956."

Title from verso.
