Description

Drawing unsigned, possibly created by Beatrix Farrand or her office staff as one of a number of designs for the gates in Terrace D.

Drawing undated, probably created between 1922-1936 based on other drawings Beatrix Farrand created for the design of Terrace D.

Added notations in pencil: "S. & N. gates of C - restudy & omit L. side pilasters, insert- R&M, gate piers replace pilaster, omit barbed [dogbars?] & improv." and "See later - notes for change, this gate - Bliss, See noted p. v - [Lande?] ornament." The gate design may have been modified for use in Terrace C.

Gate is similar to an illustration that appears on page 112 in the book, English ironwork of the XVII & XVIII centuries by John Starkie Gardner, [1911].

Title created by cataloger.
