Description

Halftone print of wall and ornament at an unidentified designed landscape not located at Dumbarton Oaks.

Based on verso writing and appearance of completed Swimming Pool designs, this wall possibly served as inspiration for the Rocaille panels Beatrix Farrand used on the west wall of the Swimming Pool.

Print undated, possibly created as an example for the construction of the swimming pool west wall, 1926-1931.

On verso: typewritten label: Swimming Pool, possible source for rocaille motif. Also handwritten: 1985 gardens photo ex. Decoration [underlined]; swimming pool fountain grotto - "source for stalagtite [sic] decoration." Stamped in ink: H.L. Bradley, Photographer, 19 Cottage St., Bar Harbor, ME.
