Garden and Landscape Photographs and Design Archives

The Garden and Landscape Photographs consist of several collections, including: the David Coffin Papers, the Dumbarton Oaks Garden Images (1970–2009) and a British Aerial Garden Photograph collection. Earlier Dumbarton Oaks Garden Images are available in the Library's Rare Book Collection. There is also a 16 mm film of the Dumbarton Oaks Gardens with footage dating from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s available through ICFA's Moving Image Collection.
Also available for research are materials from the Contemporary Landscape Design Collection formed under the direction of the Garden and Landscape Studies department. Drawn from the files kept by contemporary landscape architects and garden designers in their own offices and private archives, it includes items such as sketches, drawings, plans, and images of a number of selected projects as well as significant written documents prepared for a particular project.
PLEASE NOTE: Not all the archives in the Contemporary Landscape Design Collection are complete or available for research. If you are interested in consulting this collection, please contact ICFA to inquire about the status of a specific designer's archive.
