Notes

Cryptensis gr. 161 (Ζ.δ.I), from the abbey’s “Codices Literarii & Miscellanei.” As of this writing, Pinakes calls this manuscript “gr. 347”, which does not seem to be correct.

For a description of the manuscript and its contents, see Rocchi (1883) 499-502; for Bessarion’s library, see Rocchi (1893), ch. 3; for more on the manuscript collection, see Rocchi (1904) ch. 8. All are in the online resources.

Includes an embroidery of an imperial eagle, for which see Ball in bibliography. For Manuel’s letters, cf. Paris. gr. 3041, Barberin. gr. 219, Coislin. gr. 341, Vat. gr. 632, Vat. gr. 1879 and Scorial. gr. 475.

1r  Blank, save for inscription in an old hand, “bibliothecæ Nicænæ”.

2r  An inscription, above the shelfmark (Ζ.δ.I) and proprietary stampe (Βιβλιοθήκη Κρυπτοφέρρης) reads:
Emmanuelis Paleologi gratiarum actio pro acquisita salute
Alique [Grecis?] recitande [leg. recitanda?] in adversis
Accedit etiam Demetrii Crisolore [Chrysoloræ] disertatio super illud
evangelii bonus esset, si natus not fuisset qad’ Iudam.
