Sabbaiticus 417: pseudo-Jacobus contra Lutherum («...ὅτι ἀδύνατον ἀπὸ πίστεως μόνης σωθῆναί τινα...»), Stultitiæ Laus («ἐγκώμιον... εἰς τὸν μάταιον, προσφυὴς κωμῳδία»), &c. For a detailed list of contents, see entry in Παπαδόπουλος-Κεραμεύς (vol. 2, pp. 533-536) under online resources.

Multiple hands, most with some amount of uncials and minimal abbreviations. Water damage on the “first series” of pages (see below), with only minimal effect on legibility. Many parts of pages removed, but little if any text. The first folio of the codex as it now stands (with monastery’s stamp on it: Χειρογράφων Ἁγίου Σάββα ἀριθ. 417) begins in medias res, apparently with Greg. Naz. (TLG 2022.023). Page without title, incipit «καὶ πᾶς ἀδελφὸς πτέρνῃ πτερνιεῖ τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ...» The next folio (numbered 2 at the top, being the second folio of today’s entire codex) seems from the microfilm possibly to have an 11 at the bottom, which would make the above start at the ninth folio of some earlier manuscript (though we should not want to commit to such).

Four to six newer sheets were then inserted, starting with fol. 3 by the newer (whole-codex) reckoning. We have on our microfilms (JER.2.9 and WEST.JER.2.11) pages 2v/3r, a verso with 6r, then 6v-8v (which appear from our film to be blank) and 9r, about which see below. Whether 3v-5r are actually missing in the manuscript, or only from our film, we cannot say.

At 9r (if we reckon from the entire, bound codex) there is also an earlier foliation, starting there at 1, which has been crossed out. The two foliations compete throughout; we refer here to the later, complete-codex foliation. There is pagination as well: two series of it for the two main segments that comprise the codex. (This pagination shows one or two lapsûs oculi: for example, fol. 133r is numbered p. 246, but its verso is numbered 249; there does not seem to be anything missing and the pagination continues on from there.)  The correspondences are as follows, with the old, crossed out foliation in parentheses:

Παπαδόπουλος-Κεραμεύς takes his contents from that beginning on 3r («πίναξ σὺν Θεῷ τοῦ παρόντος βιβλίου»), which ends on “5v” (or, the unnumbered verso before 6r), «Διέβαζε [sic] μὲ προσοχὴν διὰ νὰ ὠφεληθῇς.  Τέλος.  1780· Φεβρουαρίου 6.  Καὶ εὔχεσθαι ὑπὲρ τοῦ γράψαντος, ἁμαρτωλοῦ.» This goes, in other words, over the missing or “ghost” pages.
