Professor Mavroudi discussed why Byzantine science is generally absent from narratives on the history of science that span from antiquity until the present. Her lecture also referred to the primary source materials available for the study of Byzantine science (manuscripts and instruments) and to the connection of Byzantine science with its equivalent in other parts of the medieval world
