Middle East Garden Traditions

The Middle East Garden Traditions website provides tools for research on the gardens of countries ranging from Morocco and Moorish Spain to Pakistan and India. It was prepared by a group of scholars from Iran, Israel, Morocco, Pakistan, Turkey, and the United States, who gathered in Istanbul in June 2004 at the joint invitation of Professor Nurhan Atasoy and Michel Conan, former director of Garden and Landscape Studies at Dumbarton Oaks. This project is related to the publication of an edited volume of essays: Middle East Garden Traditions: Unity and Diversity; Questions, Methods and Resources in a Multicultural Perspective, edited by Michel Conan (Washington DC: Dumbarton Oaks, 2007 and distributed by Harvard University Press).
