An Echo.

Will's Cigarettes / 3rd Series of 50

Do you know what causes an Echo? / Sound is a wave motion, like light and radiant heat, and all wave motions can be reflected. The laws which apply to the reflection of sound are the same as those governing the reflection of light. When a wave of sound strikes a wall at a certain angle, it is reflected at the same angle. Echoes, which are familiar examples of reflection of sound, sometimes occur in nature; for example a clap of thunder reflected (or echoed) from cloud and earth is heard as a peal. Echoes in buildings are very common, a famous example being the Whispering Gallery at St. Paul's, London. (See picture.)
