Jacobo Granat

Mexico City, Mexico, 1871–1943 (Printer)

Jacobo Granat (1871–1943) was a merchant who established various businesses, including one of the first printing companies for postcards in Mexico and the first Mexican cinema house. A Jew born in Lember, Austria, he later became a naturalized American citizen and moved to Mexico City in 1902. His company printed some three hundred postcards, mostly of scenes and sites in Mexico, but also of silent film actors which were sold in the cinema lobby. He left Mexico after the revolution in 1921, returned to Austria, and was murdered by the Nazis at Auschwitz.
