Dear Robert.

I hear from Eric that he has sent you an off-print of an articleCharles Diehl, “Argenteries syriennes,” Syria 11 (1930): 209–15, figs. 1–3. on the spoons,BZ.1937.35–42. with reproductions.

I don’t think it would be advisable for me to write to the owner, asking for a photo, for fear of giving him the impression that his spoonsBZ.1937.35–42. are exciting wide-spread interest. You’ll be able to tell from the repros., no doubt, whether you want any of them. Eric hasn’t got a price yet—or hasn’t said anything about it to me.

I hope to run down to Rome later this month.

Did I tell you that the Spanish State Papers have come to life again? The Record OfficeThe Public Record Office of the British Home Office, London. is sending me proofs of the 1554 vol., which they’ve had in hand for 22 years. Rip van Winkle has got nothing on me.

All well here, & as to affairs in general, I’m confirmed in the idea I sketched out in my letters of last Oct. and Dec.

Yrs

R. T.
