Royall Tyler to Robert Woods Bliss, May 6, 1938 [2]

Hôtel Trois Rois

Bâle

6.V.38

Dear Robert.

I had your cable this morning, and have replied “Detained here (i.e. Geneva) am sending Dodge introduction Marquet asking show ivoryBZ.1939.8. cable opinion Stop if you don’t approve please cable Stop must spend couple days NY before Washington expecting letter boat love.”See telegram of May 6, 1938 [1].

I hope this is clear. I can’t get to Paris between now & sailing—or only for a day before sailing, & thought better to ask Geoffrey to approach Marquet, therefore giving him an introduction. But I also thought I’d better allow for the possibility that you might not want it done by Geoffrey.

I hope to get some news from you when the Queen Mary reaches NY on the 23d inst.

Many thanks for welcoming me, and also the chalice.BZ.1955.18. Apparently, Royall Tyler was bringing the chalice to Dumbarton Oaks for safe keeping. See letter of March 31, 1938.

I’m enormously looking forward to seeing you.

Much love from Elisina & myself to you both

R. T.

I’m only here for 24 hrs to see some of the BISBank of International Settlements, Basel. people.
