Royall Tyler to Mildred Barnes Bliss, December 11, 1935

Hôtel Beau-Rivage

Genève

11.XII.35

I’ve just had your wire, dearest Mildred, and have answered that I hope to be at the Crillon, Paris, on Sat. (latest Sunday) and on Mon. evening in London, c/o John Hugh Smith,John Hugh Smith (1873–1953), an American expatriate banker, art collector, Francophile, and literary devotee. Smith was a close friend of Henry James and Edith Wharton. 74 Portland Place.

I must stop in Paris to see Elisina before she leaves for Antigny and Italy. Otherwise I’d come straight to you in London. I’m free on Tues., so far, for anything you like. Do let me have a line c/o John Hugh.

Much anxiety and suspense here today,The League of Nations was attempting to bring peace to Ethiopia and end the Italo-Ethiopian war. as you may imagine. My own little affairs are going quite smoothly.

Much love to you both

Yrs
