Dear Robert.

I hear from F. that he is expecting shortly to get the round object.BZ.1937.23. As soon as it is in Switzerland, I hope to be able to rush to see it, & then cable you to transfer.

F. is having trouble about Gotha.See letters of April 8, 1937 [2]; April 9, 1937 [1]; April 9, 1937 [2]; April 16, 1937 [1]; April 16, 1937 [2]; May 22, 1937; June 3, 1937; June 16, 1937; June 26, 1937; July 6, 1937; July 25, 1937; August 21, 1937; September 4, 1937; October 25, 1937 [1]; November 23, 1937; December 13, 1937 [3]; February 28, 1938; March 31, 1938; July 10, 1938; July 29, 1938; August 10, 1938; August 16, 1938 [2]; December 20, 1938; and January 3, 1939. The people there have recently made some sales, without getting previous permission, and have been rapped over the knuckles for it, so they are now cautious. F. is working to overcome the difficulty, and hopes to succeed.

I had a day with our Roman friend last week. He is very enthusiastic about the things he saw—had just seen—in the same collection as the round one. Photos are being prepared, & you shall have them as soon as I can get them. It seems that there are no worth-while enamels or ivories or other small objects—only sculpture.

I am anxiously waiting to hear that you have received (1) Lucca,BZ.1937.18. (2) StephenBZ.1937.19. (3) the Pre-Columbian stuffPC.B.045, PC.B.056, PC.B.100, PC.B.101, PC.B.110, PC.B.160, PC.B.161, PC.B.162, and PC.B.249 (4) Kaleb’s calacedony cameo.BZ.1937.20. Please let me know when they come along, & what you think of them.

Elisina is having a heart-rending time with Edith. The news are a shade better—but that’s all, & one doesn’t know what to hope. It’s a great relief for Elisina to have Mrs. Farrand there.

Bill has at last got his permit, & starts work next week.

Much love to you both.

Yrs

R. T.
