I therefore got F. to come over here today, and spoke to him on the matter along the lines of your letter of 31 March. He will discreetly tâter le terrain,“Test the waters.” & let me know.

He has been very ill, but is better now. I mentioned the two receipts, and he said he would send them off as soon as he returns home, in a couple of days.

He is in steady negociations about the ivories, and I may have something to report on that subject very shortly.

(2) Do you know what the scientific apparatus consists of, and are you sure it would be worth your taking it over? (3) Would you be able, supposing Z. were willing to march, to get a catalogue, or list, of the apparatus? (4) Would you want me to go and look it over before concluding?

Much love to you both
