Dear Royall,
It was a most unexpected delight to have Bill turn up a week ago yesterday, and to have had him give us a whole evening alone last night, before his departure today. He has grown in a most satisfactory way under the responsibilities of his work in Paris, and Mildred and I are much pleased with his marked mental development. We are sure that you are very satisfied, too, with the way he is broadening (this does not mean physically!).
The Department gave him do leisure here, but he seems to take everything in his stride and we are particularly glad that he is to be attached to our Delegation in London.In 1950, William R. Tyler served as public affairs advisor to the Tripartite Meeting on the role of NATO in London.
Last week was held the Annual Symposium at Dumbarton Oaks. This year it was a particularly successful one with excellent Papers being presented.The 1950 symposium was on the subject of “The Emperor and the Palace.” The speakers were: André Grabar, Francis Dvornik, Ernest H. Kantorowicz, Hans P. L’Orange, Andrew Alföldi, and Paul A. Underwood. This is written in great haste to reach you before Bill returns and therefore Mildred does not know that I am writing. She would otherwise join in sending you and Elisina much love.

We are both well with a full programme for the next two months—there are no European plans as yet tho’ we hope to sail over later on. We shall keep you posted.
