Notes

Revilla-Andrés 284.
Nota Antiqua υ.iii.14.
Miller no. 281.

For the scribe (Nicephorus of Eubœa), with images from this manuscript, see “Escorial Copyist” in online resources.

Fol. 241 seems to have been torn, with about the bottom half missing.

The reader of a tract on ophthalmological treatments from Galen’s Περὶ Τροφῶν Δυνάμεων glosses the scribe’s apparently incorrect εὔφραξις with ἔμφραξις (85v).  On the following page he comes upon a lectio dificilis: «ὁ δὲ χυλὸς αὐτῶν ὀφελεῖ εἰς τὴν ἀμβλυωπίαν τὴν οὖσαν εἰς τὰ ὄμματα· αἱ νύμφαι, ἤτοι τὰ νούφερα· ψυχραὶ καὶ ὑγραί· καὶ ὑπνωτικαί...»  Νούφερα is underlined, and in the margin, «ἴσως βλέφαρα». On 90r he suggests «ἴσως αἷμα» as an alternative reading to the text’s σῶμα. Elsewhere he adds the word vel, showing that it’s a westerner reading this.

18v, only couple lines
19r-v blank

21r-v have interesting contents not listed (as of June 2011) in Pinakes, both written “sideways” (90° right).  The first is assorted pieces of medical advice in prose:

The second page (21v) has a poem in political verse (ed. forthcoming).

156r in a new hand:

Final pages are part of an index.
