Padua and Pietro Arduino

Padua and Pietro Arduino

In Padua, Pietro Arduino (1728–1805) was an active member of Linnaeus’s extensive network. While his predecessors had remained loyal to Tournefort’s system, Arduino preferred Linnaean principles. The engagement of men like Arduino and Michelangelo Tilli in the scientific societies and networks of their day demonstrates that innovations in botany and taxonomy influenced all of the prominent gardens of the period.
