This small photograph shows the detail of the dome mosaic in the main church of the monastery at Daphni, Greece, which is dated to the late eleventh century. This image of the Christ Pantokrator served as a direct visual model for Paul Underwood’s depiction of the same iconography in his drawing for the central dome of the Holy Apostles (see here).
