Ms.

Contains 3 leaves of text and 56 leaves of plates.

The first text (leaf [1]) concerns royal herb gardens. The second and third texts (leaves [2] and [47]) concern royal orchards.

Pen and bistre drawings on white laid paper. All drawings bear marks of blind tooling used to construct a perspective.

Each drawing bears the initials "HP" and a number. The numbers follow sequentially from 2 to 51, and from 56 to 60. The third text, on leaf [47], is hand-numbered 45 and is followed by hand-numbered plate 45. There are no plates numbered 52-55.

On leaf [34], along the frieze of the building depicted, "Hans" and "Puec" appear above the left and right doorways respectively. Leaves [5], [16] , [19], [24], [29], [31], [34], and [40] have "1592" drawn in the architectural ornament of the buildings depicted. Attributed to Hans Puechfeldner, gardener of Rudolf II, who composed 2 similar presentation albums for Rudolf II with the titles Ein Nutzliches Khunstbuech der Gartnereij and Ein Nutzliches Khunstbuech der Lustigen Gartnereij, currently in the collection of the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek in Vienna. See: Garden book made for Emperor Rudolf II in 1593 : Hans Puechfeldner's Nützliches Khünstbüech der Gartnereij / Erik A. De Jong ; and Habsburg gardening and Flemish influences in the late sixteenth century : a book of garden designs from 1593 for the Emperor Rudolf II in Prague : Hans Puechfeldner's Useful artbook of gardening / Erik A. de Jong.

Both front and back covers have a decorative gold double border. The number "64" in black ink, possibly an original inventory number, appears at upper right between the front cover's decorative borders; gilt and gauffered edges.

On p. [2] of cover in ink is written "Bibliotheca" with the remaining inscription erased and unidentifiable.
