Commentary
The identity of the emperor is easily confirmed from the fact that the figure holds a globus surmounted by a patriarchal cross. Such a cross in this context is unusual, but is to be seen on the gold coinage of Theodosios III (see DOC II.2, pl. XLVI, 1.b.1).
