I am the protection of Leo Kastamonites.

Commentary

Several other seals in the collections of Dumbarton Oaks and Fogg Museum, listed below, bear the name of Leo Kastamonites. Katsaros (Katsaros, Iōannēs Kastamonitēs, p.134-138) dates them all, including the present specimen, to the eleventh or twelfth century. There is not enough evidence, however, to establish whether they belonged to the same individual.
