Commentary

The owner of this seal is to be identified as Theodore Eirenikos who held a number of offices under the emperor Alexios III Angelos (1195-1203) and was Patriarch of Constantinople from 1214 to 1216. See Wassiliou-Seibt's commentary for further references.

Note that St. Theodore is addressed by his epithet "Tiron," in other words, "the recruit."
