Obverse

Bust of the Mother of God orans with the Child before her. Details indistinct. On either side, an inscription. Above: ̅θυ̅: Μή(τη)ρ Θ(εο)ῦ. Below: Ισ̅χσ̅: Ἰ(ησοῦ)ς Χ(ριστό)ς. Linear border.

Reverse

Inscription of six lines beginning with a cross, bottom line missing. Linear border.

κύρου σεβαστοῦ τὰς γραφὰς Ἰωάννου, πάναγνε σεμνή, τοῦ Πολεμια[νίτου]

Translation

κύρου σεβαστοῦ τὰς γραφὰς Ἰωάννου, πάναγνε σεμνή, τοῦ Πολεμιανίτου.

Immaculate and all-holy One, validate the letters of the sebastos John Polemianites.

Commentary

This metrical seal should be added to the corpus compiled by Wassiliou-Seibt.

The wife of a sebastos named John Polemianites is mentioned in a document from 1316; see H. Hunger and O. Kresten, Das Register des Patriarchats von Konstantinopel, vol. 1 (Vienna, 1981), no. 44 (p. 308, 4-6).

Note the superfluous abbreviation mark in the third line of the reverse.
