Translation

Πρωτάνγελος ἐκ τυπῶν τῆς γραφῆς φύλαξ.

Through his image the first among the angels has become the guardian of this letter.

Commentary

The two characters at the top of the reverse appear to be a cross followed by the usual abbreviation for protos (or "first"), as though the engraver intended to begin the inscription with this but ended up carving protangelos in full on the line below. We therefore indicate the top line in the transcription but do not include it in the metrical formula contained on the seal.
