John imperial protospatharios epi tou Chrystriklinou, judge of the Velum, protonotarios τῶν Ἐλευθερίου (and ?) (eleventh century)

Bust of St. Nicholas, his right hand raised in blessing, and holding a book in his left hand. Inscription in two columns: Ὁ ἅ(γιος) Νικόλ(αος). Border of dots.

Ἰω(άννης) (πρωτο)[σ]παθ(άριος) ἐπὶ [τ(οῦ)] Χρ(υσο)(τρι)κλ(ίνου), κρ(ιτὴς) τοῦ βίλ(ου), (πρωτο)ν(οτάριος) τ(ῶν) Ἐλευθερ(ίου) . . .

Translation

Ἰωάννης πρωτοσπαθάριος ἐπὶ τοῦ Χρυσοτρικλίνου, κριτὴς τοῦ βίλου, πρωτονοτάριος τῶν Ἐλευθερίου . . .

John protospatharios epi tou Chrysotriklinou, judge of the Velum, protonotarios ton Eleutheriou  . . .

Commentary

On the second line of the reverse, there is an accent mark over the iota. The reading of the last line is not certain. John may have been a judge of Chaldia or the kourator of an imperial domain.
