Translation

Mother of God, help your servant Sisinnios Hexakionites (?) protospatharios and strategos of the Peloponnesos.

Commentary

It is unclear whether the reverse inscription consists of five lines or six, but while there is space for a sixth line, we note that there is no evidence of any imprint. Reading the family name is a problem: the last legible letter seems to be a Κ (the vertical line and the ending of the upper oblique line are clearly visible); but there was probably one more letter that cannot be seen. Thus the name that comes to mind right away is Ἑξακιονίτης, but the rare Ἑξακλινίτης is also possible (cf. Laurent, Corpus II, no. 844), as are Ἑξακωμίτης or Ἐξακουστός. Cf. Basilics, schol. 3 to XI,1,76.
