Commentary

Euthymios Chortaïtes or Chortaïtenos (then a fifteen-syllable verse) may simply be a family name, but it is equally possible that he was a member of the monastic community of Mt Chortaïtes near Thessalonica. The obverse decoration on this seal is that same as that which appears on the seals of that monastery (see Laurent, Corpus 5.2: no. 1242 and 5.3: no. 1936).
