Commentary

The reading of the owner's Christian name is by no means certain. The ΙΩ at the end of the first line of the obverse is clear and may be the termination of Photios, a name that fits the space available. But we must allow for the possibility that the abbreviated invocation Κύριε βοήθει precedes these two letters, in which event the two letters would give the name John.
