Translation

Κύριε βοήθει Βασιλείῳ ἐκδίκῳ κὲ δευτερέβοντι τῆς Μεγάλης 'Εκλισίας.

Lord, help Basil ekdikos and deutereuon of the Great Church.

Commentary

The editors of DO Seals 5 note that the figure at right on the obverse seems to be a bearded bishop-saint. W. Seibt, in his review of the volume (BZ 100 [2007]: 234), suggests that the obverse could a half-length "ekklesiekdikoi" type, representing the Theotokos receiving a model of Saint Sophia from Emperor Justinian; see, for example, BZS.1958.106.4810.
