Obverse

Alexios III Angelos (1195-1203)

St. Constantine standing, wearing a crown and a loros, an end of which is draped over the left arm. He holds in the right hand a long cross scepter and an akakia in the left. Inscription in two columns: ἅγιος Κωνσταντῖνος. Border of dots.

Reverse

Alexios III Angelos (1195-1203)

Alexios III standing, wearing a crown and chlamys and holding in the right hand a labarum (only partially visible) and an akakia in the left. Remains of a circular inscription at right. Border of dots.

[Ἀλέξιος δεσπότης Κο]μνηνό(ς).


Translation

Ἀλέξιος δεσπότης Κομνηνός.

Alexios Komnenos, despotes.

Commentary

At the end of the circular inscription on the reverse appears a small sigma in superscript. It may be a letter or a mark of abbreviation.
