How to use the catalogue

This page provides basic instructions for searching and using the seals catalogue.

How to Search

To begin searching the catalogue, click the "Search the Catalogue" button. This will take you to the search page.

On the search page you will be able to search using fields with predetermined values, such as "Century," or by fields with a free text search, such as "Owner Name or Institution." It is possible to select more than one value at a time and to search using a combination of criteria. In the top right corner of the search page you can click on "More Filters," which will load an expanded search page. Results will be displayed as the title and accession number of the seal in the center of the page. You can access individual seal records by clicking on the title and accession number.

Saving Your Seals

To save a seal for later consultation click the "Add to My Seals" button, located below the title of the seal and above the accession number. This will save your seals to a separate list for 24 hours.

Once you have saved a seal the "My Seals" link will appear on the bottom of the left-hand navigation menu.

The My Seals List and Comparison view

Clicking on the my seals list opens the list of saved seals. Once in the list view any two seals can be selected for comparison. Click the box next to each seal then the "Compare" button at the bottom of the list.

This will open the comparison view where you will be able to see a shortened version of the entries for the two seals side by side. To access the full entry for one of seals click on the accession number.
