Description
Typewritten letter written between July 28, 1947-August 6, 1947 apologizes to Mildred Bliss for not answering her two letters sooner; reports on meeting with Anne Sweeney about books and future direction for acquiring them for the Dumbarton Oaks Garden Library; reports on her health and commenting on that of Mildred Bliss; and responds to questions asked in previous letters.
Beatrix Farrand suggests the Dumbarton Oaks Garden Library should acquire first, books that will be useful for horticulturalists, arboriculturists, and garden designers; second, will be a representation of old books on garden design; and include a good collection of garden design prints. It should have an "ordinary" reading room where current books, magazines, catalogues, card indexes of plants, and sectional plans can be consulted, and a rare book room for properly accredited students to work.
On Beatrix Farrand's Reef Point, Bar Harbor, Maine letterhead; includes handwritten signature and postscript in ink.
Carbon copy of letter also in collection.
Marked as received, Aug 8/[1947] in pencil.
