Description
Typewritten letter thanks Mildred Bliss for affectionate understanding of the fire and devastation which occurred on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Beatrix Farrand is interested to hear of Mildred Bliss's travel to Istanbul and her experience at Saint Sophia.
She mentions a meeting with Robert Patterson and John Thacher in October where they discussed John Thacher's idea to renovate the Director's House into the Garden Center and Library. She expresses to Mildred Bliss that it is a good idea. Also included is an extract of a letter from John Thacher to Beatrix Farrand, October 17, 1947 discussing the Director's House possibility.
Beatrix Farrand is in Boston, but on her way to Santa Barbara, California for the winter.
On Beatrix Farrand's Reef Point, Bar Harbor, Maine with handwritten signature in ink. Isabelle M. Stover may have signed letter on behalf of Beatrix Farrand based on the letter "s" shown below "Trix."

Also sent: an extract of a letter from John Thacher to Mildred Bliss, October 17, 1947 discussing the Director's House possibility and a note from Isabelle Stover asking John Thacher to add the Claridge's Hotel address to the envelope going to Mildred Bliss and send.
Carbon copy of letter also in collection with added notation. In upper right corner is written in red pencil, "Farrand." Also "cc Mr. Thacher, Mr. Patterson" typewritten at end.
