Description
Typewritten letter responds to matters expressed in letters dated November 5, 1946 to January 10, 1947. Mildred Bliss does not feel the yew hedges should be removed in the Herbaceous Border because she does not "see" an alternative design. Mildred Bliss reports John Thacher is doing well and the morale, scholarship, public relations and collection are all moving in the right direction at Dumbarton Oaks and asks about the well being of Maunsell Van Rensselaer at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. Mildred Bliss reports on the health of a number of friends. She will send Beatrix Farrand additional funds for the expense account for prints.
Mildred Bliss has relied upon Beatrix Farrand's plan for the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden B:BF 1946.11.23 and her article, Contemplated landscape changes at the Arnold Arboretum, published in Arnoldia, November 1, 1946 when talking with the Dean of the Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. on work for the grounds. The Dean in 1947 was John Wallace Suter.
