Description

Around 1948 the deteriorated Cox mural was removed, according to a letter by Robert Patterson in the House Archives.

Sometime in the 1960s, glass and stone mosaic panels replaced Allyn Cox's original canvas murals in the McKim, Mead & White designed Loggia.

Photograph undated, probably taken 1960-1990 based on existence of mosaic and use of black-and-white.

Two copies of photograph in collection.

Copy 1, verso: typewritten label: Swimming Pool, Detail of mosaic. Also handwritten: 68.194.3.

Copy 2, verso: typewritten label: Swimming Pool, Detail of mosaic. Also handwritten: "T."
