Notes

Bodleianus Clarkianus 10 (Summary Catalogue no. 18372;  Aland gospel no. 12; Scrivener's & Gregory's gospels no. 112; Selden Cupboard 12; exhibition volume (anno 1966) no. 77).  Parchment, eleventh century.

From the collection of Edward Daniel Clarke (1769-1822), professor of mineralogy at Cambridge and noted world traveler; this "appears to have belonged to prince Alexander Bano Hantzerlj or Handjerlï, of Constantinople, see Clarke's Travels, 4th ed., iii. 72; Life, 564" (Madan, sub lem. 18372).  For those two fascinating works, and for the provenance of his collection at Bodley, see "Clarke: Travels" and "Clarke: Life" in our Online Resources (and Otter and Clarke in the Bibliography); both links go to the passages above.

See "Bodley: This Collection" in Online Resources and scroll down to this manuscript for more information and updated bibliography, as well as an image of fol. 10v (St. Matthew), also linked to as "Image" in our Online Resources.  Our link "Images" is to ten medium-quality color images from this manuscript in Bodley's digital collection.  For further color reproductions, see Ohlgren (1977) abstracts 6 & 7 in the Bibliography.

First recto page (unnumbered):  in large letters, «ἡμέτερον».  In smaller, "E. D. Clarkii / Cod. Gr. / 10. / Gaisfordii Catal. p. 14 sq."  See Gaisford in Bibliography and Online Resources.  Fol. 125r has an apparition of our Lord (a watermark?).

Fol. 167r  Under folio-number is the label "ult(imus)".
