Albert Kretschmer

Albert Kretschmer (1825–1891) was a German professor, painter, costumes historian, and chairman of the Schauspielhaus Berlin. Kretschmer moved to Berlin in 1842 and studied with Carl Joseph Begas (1794–1854) at the Prussian Academy of Arts. He was renowned for his detailed drawings, watercolor and oil paintings, and lithographs of historic fashion. Kretschmer also worked as a costume designer at the Schauspielhaus Berlin until 1889.
