Berlin, German (Artist)
Albert Kretschmer (1825 –1891) was a German professor, painter, and historian of costume design. He moved to Berlin in 1842 and studied with Professor Carl Joseph Begas (1794–1854) at the Prussian Academy of Arts, He became chairman of the Schauspielhaus Berlin, where he had worked as a costume designer until 1889. Kretschmer is best known for his detailed drawings and watercolors of historic fashion.
