Purger & Company

Munich, Germany, 1899–1920 (Printer)

The Munich printing house of Purger & Co., at Mozartstraße 13, was active between 1899 and 1920 and was best known for its colored postcards that it began to produce at the beginning of the twentieth century. The postcards were printed in three-color chromolithography, a process labeled on the postcards as “Photochromiekarte.” The company also printed postcards for other companies. The Purger & Co. postcards initially were numbered at the bottom of the postcard's face, but later (possibly after 1905) they were numbered on the reverse side.
