Walter Severn

London, England, United Kingdom (Artist)

Walter Severn (1830–1904), was a British watercolor artist, born at Frascati, near Rome. He entered the civil service in 1852, and was for thirty-three years an officer in the education department. He took an interest in varied branches of art and chose as his avocation landscape painting in the watercolor medium. When the London Old Water-colour Society rejected the membership application of his brother Arthur, a landscape painter, Walter Severn formed the Dudley Gallery Art Society. The society held annual exhibitions.
