TRANSCRIPTION

Vénération des Animaux - L'Étang aux poissons sacrés d'Ayacucho (Pérou) ["Animal Veneration - The sacred fish pond of Ayacucho (Peru)"]

["Animal Worship. Most primitive peoples considered humans and animals to be beings on the same moral and intellectual level; in addition, they sometimes attributed a superior power to certain animals and gave them divine honors. This idea persisted among peoples of high culture (like the ancient Egyptians, for example) which gave birth to a cult of deities more or less related to the animal kingdom. The same thing happened with the natives of Peru, the ancient Incas, who had achieved a high level of civilization by the time the Spanish came to conquer their country. The fish were sacred for the Incas, and they would have been careful not to eat their flesh. The fish pond of Ayacucho was considered to be a sacred site."]
