Dear Robert,

I had your letter of 2 Jan. yesterday,The whereabouts of this letter are unknown. and I’ve now handed over the enclo. The enclosure was not retained with the letter. to Landau.Nicolas Landau (1887–1979), an antiquities dealer known as “Le prince des antiquaires.” Born in Varsovia, he studied law in Paris before becoming an antiquities dealer in New York and then in Paris, where he had a business on the rue de Duras. He tells me D.O. isn’t taking that cameo. In the Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine Collection’s Art for Sale File, this cameo is identified as Standing Virgin with Child, Byzantine, eleventh-twelfth century, M. Nicholas Landau, Dec. 29, 1947. I think they’re wrong.

I have 12 collars of yours, & will bring them. I’m still due to sail Feb. 14—but I doubt if I can make it.

Fearful rush—just got to catch a plane.

I’ll let you know definitive plans as soon as I’m sure, myself.

Love

Yrs

R.T.
