Dear Royall:

Your telegram of June 25thActually telegram of June 26, 1951. reached me while attending a reception in Burlington, Vermont, which Mr. and Mrs. Warren AustinWarren Robinson Austin (1877–1962), an American politician and statesman who served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations between 1946 and 1953. He married Mildred Marie Lucas of St. Albans, Vermont, on June 26, 1901. were giving in their garden to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary! We only returned to Washington late yesterday afternoon and I am writing to the Knickerbocker ClubThe Knickerbocker Club, a gentlemen’s club in New York that was founded in 1871 and has been located at 2 East 62nd Street since 1913. today about your “rooming” there as my guest during your stay in New York. There is no doubt in my mind but that everything will be arranged according to your wishes and, if you hear nothing from me to the contrary, you may count on it being so.

Needless to say that Mildred and I are overjoyed at the idea of your unexpected return to New York. When you arrive we, in all probability, shall be at Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard where we plan to spend a month before going abroad. Our plans are not definite as yet, but you will know in due time when they are definitely arranged, especially about our trip to the Greek Isles.

It will be just as easy and quick for you to fly down from New York to Martha’s Vineyard (one hour 10 minutes) as it will be to fly to Washington and besides you will find it much cooler when you come there to spend a week end with us!

Much affection to you from us both to you both and to Betbil. The Bliss abbreviation for Bettine Tyler and William Royall Tyler.

Yours ever,
