Kew Gardens and Franz Bauer

Franz Bauer (1758–1840), who illustrated the Erica pictured above, was employed by Joseph Banks as a botanical artist at Kew Gardens. Bauer, along with his brother Ferdinand, also contributed plates to Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin's Icones plantarum rariorum (1781–1793), which included illustrations of rare plants from Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna.
