The two prints—on one uncut sheet—share a compositional type: a glass vase with a small but full arrangement of flowers placed on a ledge where it casts a shadow.
The glass containers allowed Monnoyer to highlight his printmaking skills at illustrating both transparency and reflections, devices that were well established features in the still life flower paintings at which he excelled. Typical of Monnoyer’s work, the bouquets contain flowers that bloomed in different seasons.
