Description
Watercolor drawings are on vellum and loosely inserted in 5 folio volumes.
Aside from the 300 leaves of plates, includes also a series of 172 watercolors (gouache on vellum) purchased separately but clearly from the same collection.

"Cattrani had been employed as a botanical illustrator in the prestigious botanical garden at Padua... It is generally believed that Eugène inherited the collection from his mother, the Empress Joséphine, who had invited Cattrani to join the group working in the gardens of her country estate at Malmaison"--Four seasons of flowers : a selection of botanical illustrations from the Rare Book Collection at Dumbarton Oaks.
